Though your Pokémon from original Game Boy cartridges are unfortunately off limits (unless, of course, you've been playing the Virtual Console versions) it's possible to take Pokémon from the Game Boy Advance all the way through to Sword and Shield. Though it's designed to easily work with modern Pokémon games on Switch (and now finally with Pokémon Go) it also supports Pokémon from previous generations with some careful planning thanks to Pokémon Bank.
Pokémon Home is the latest version of an online deposit box for your Pokémon - a service started many years ago on the Game Boy Color with Pokémon Silver and Gold's Time Capsule, through to the most recent predecessor in Pokémon Bank on the 3DS.
